Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about LAN Lens and professional network scanning.

App & Beta

Simply email waitlist@lanlens.net with the subject "Add me to the waitlist". We are admitting users in batches to ensure platform stability.

During the beta, we are testing native versions for iOS (TestFlight), Android (Play Store Beta), and macOS.

Technical & Privacy

No. LAN Lens is built with a "Privacy First" architecture. All scanning, interrogation, and device mapping happens locally on your device. Your network is your business.

Our discovery engine is highly optimized. Active scanning only occurs when the app is open and you initiate a refresh, using minimal background resources.

Networking 101

A Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique identifier assigned to a network interface controller. It acts as a permanent "serial number" for your hardware on the local network.

Some devices (especially security-hardened ones) do not respond to interrogation protocols like mDNS or UPnP. LAN Lens uses ICMP and ARP to find them, but they may lack a readable hostname until deep interrogation is performed.
